Not all travel done by South Africans is to go on a fun holiday. Sadly, recent data from the Domestic Tourism Survey reveals that there has been an uptick in people travelling to attend funerals.
According to the numbers, funerals accounted for 11.2% of all 26.2 million overnight trips across the country. The number of overnight trips grew 1.5% from last year’s 25.8 million. When it comes to day trips, around 33.5 million took place during the year.
The total spending on domestic travel came in at R60.4 billion, most of which was driven by overnight travel. And regarding the overnight trips, KwaZulu-Natal was the leading destination, closely followed by Limpopo, Gauteng and the Western Cape.
Most of these trips were taken by car and taxi. This is, no doubt, because of the high cost of air travel in South Africa. This is why 21st Century Funerals has partnered with CemAir so that our policyholders can attend important send-offs and celebrations in other parts of the country, minimising the financial costs.
Most parts of South Africa are accessible via short, two- or even one-hour flights. This is a lot more comfortable and convenient than spending many hours on the road. It is also a lot safer than driving, considering we have a yearly death toll of between 10,000 and 12,000 on the roads.
CemAir has fleets travelling on major South African routes and even neighbouring countries. Policyholders get a 10% discount on all domestic flights as part of our commitment to bring real value to our members.
To make use of this offer, email us at [email protected] to receive your unique promo code, select your departure and arrival destinations, travel dates, and the number of passengers on CemAir’s website, enter your promo code in the space provided and click ‘Search’. Now, you can travel faster and in comfort next time you have to attend a burial in another part of the country. Just one way that 21st Century Funerals is closing the gap and bringing families closer, in good times and in difficult ones.
